Tuesday - Thursday rides

Hi guy's

Last week, we were discouraged from parking at the Y.  I completely understand
the reason and I'm fine with that.  I suggest that for the few days left in this year
(sunset tonight is 6:58) we meet at the Ballou Park Shopping Center.  They will
never be able to fill that lot with shoppers so we should be ok.

We can decide where we'll meet next year in the spring.

Malcolm will not be riding with us, they are going out of town, but he did offer to let us use

at 11:31 on Shady Grove Rd. heading west.  And we wondered how he could ride so hard
on the weekend.  Now we know.

Guy's,
I was reminded on Tuesday by the Y CEO that the Y parking lot is for YMCA members while they are using the Y facilities.
Looks like we will have to find another meeting place or park on the street.
Not many evening rides left this year.

the first ride of Fall.  If the rain holds off, we'll meet at Mal-Mar

gloomy in the morning.  If it's raining, call for an updated schedule.
Malcolm does not recognize rain you know.

Century Road Bike Route to Meadows of Dan

Everyone,

My wheels and gears are spinning and I'm wondering about the possibility of a Fall "classic" century ride from Danville to Meadows of Dan the weekend of October 15th-16th.  It's the same weekend as the Indian Summer Days fesival in MoD ... I figure they might appreciate us a bunch.

Who's in ???

Wes,

I got to thinking .... How about a "century" route to Meadows of Dan

100 miles ... it shows almost 102 miles but I couldn't get MapMyRide to transition onto the parkway without going down a dirt road.

This route has 5200 feet of climbing, which makes this route a little more "doable" as compared to B2B or Mitchell.

I think this would be a very fast race until the last 20 miles, so it's a lot like B2B, but only half the climbing.

Check it out ... Danville needs a great century race of its own.

With our new Jaguar system, we can do this for sure :)

If anyone else wants to comment, feel free to.  Does anyone else have a better suggestion for getting up to the BRP?

Storming of Thunder Ridge

From: Paula Dahl pauladahl@verizon.net

I’m writing to ask for your help in spreading the word to your members about a cycling event in Lynchburg – The Storming of Thunder Ridge.

The ride takes place on May 22nd and raises funds for YMCA of Central Virginia’s Community Support Campaign. The more riders we can attract, the more we can help out this good cause.

Riders can choose from a 35, 65 and 100 mile course with the Blue Ridge Mountains providing the perfect backdrop for a glorious and challenging day of cycling.

Storming of Thunder Ridge is fully-supported including route signage, cue sheets, monitoring, stocked rest stops, mechanical help and SAG. At the finish, riders can enjoy complimentary food plus prizes, massage and other perks.

Here’s how you can help:
  1. Email your members about Storming of Thunder Ridge
  2. Add a link to Storming of Thunder Ridge on your Event page on your website
  3. Become a fan of the Storming of Thunder Ridge Facebook page
  4. Display and distribute the Storming of Thunder Ridge brochure
I am grateful for your help in sharing this information within your cycling community. Should you have questions, I am delighted to hear from you and tell you more about Storming of Thunder Ridge. Please let me know whether you would like me to send you brochures.

Lynchburg has a robust cycling community. I would be delighted to scratch your back too by promoting your event.

Thanks in advance,
Paula J. Dahl
